A substantial extension to this existing manor home on the outskirts of Coventry creates a new spice kitchen, gym, sauna spa, cinema room and a couple of guest bedrooms equipped with ensuites.

The scheme went through an intense concept design stage with several iterations being discussed before going into planning. Working with the assigned planning officer provided a constructive experience and the design was subsequently tweaked in line with their comments to achieve a successful approval. Several amending planning application were submitted after this to ensure all aspects of the evolving design were approved.

The architecture responds to the existing dwelling: the client's home that they themselves had had designed and built previously. Matching materiality, ridge lines and the continued gable motif harmonises with the current house while the large ground floor windows tie into the intended use towards the front (a gym) while still respecting the ornamental brick banding around the property.

The client and contractor have been exceptional to work alongside, making this project extremely satisfying to watch as it approaches completion.
